Why Nurses Have the Best Coworkers Ever

Nursing is the most rewarding and hardest profession all at the same time. Every single day we go to work, we are all a little on edge. Walking onto our unit, we’re all kind of praying, we’re all kind of hopeful, we’re all kind of just wishing for a day that doesn’t go to hell in a hand basket. We learn to love the people we work with. After all, they are the only ones who really know what it is we go through. When every last ounce of energy has been drained from our bodies, they are the only ones who can truly sympathize. You had a busy day at work? That’s rough. You had an awful day at work? Let’s go for a drink. Because the people we work with understand that there’s a difference between having a busy shift and having an awful one. So we’ll cry over margaritas until all the salt is licked off of our glasses and by the time we reach the bottom we’ll eventually be laughing about something else that happened at work. We’ll be ready to face another day—together. And isn’t that why we all still go back, day after day? Isn’t that why we all haven’t thrown in the towel? We help each other get through it, get over it, and move on. Nurses still work on weekends and holidays. This Thanksgiving, I know that hospitals everywhere celebrated Thanksgiving in their own little way, with their own little work families. I don’t know if they lucked out, and weren’t busy. I don’t know if someone forgot to bring something they signed up for. But I do know there were carbs 😃 Our coworkers are not perfect, but we learn to accept them for who they are. There’s always one nurse who has an opinion, and will share it, whether you want to hear it or not. There’s always one nurse who you can’t find when you need to hand them over a patient (even though they’ve been sitting by the same computer all morning long). There’s always one nurse who comes in just a little bit late, and there’s always one nurse who wants to leave just a little bit early. But you know what to expect, and there’s a certain level of comfort in that. Adn when things get really, really bad, we know we won’t ever have to face anything alone.  So this Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for my family—both at home and at work ❤ I couldn’t imagine all of this without you.

Until my next delivery ❤
